This exclusive show mirrors CFHILL’s Gazing Bodies, which delves into the concept of the gaze from the point of view of the artwork. Man-made objects have a tendency to keep secrets from us, overpower us, or create hyperawareness about how we speak, move, and think. These experiences are often linked to a tension between feelings of closeness and distance – we relate to certain parts of a piece and mirror ourselves in them, while others seem to trick our comprehension. Often unplanned, as it arises in the meeting between the beholder and the artwork, this evasive quality can feel like a gaze back from the work. A gaze that is more likely to emerge from something we, the observers, instinctively relate to, like the depiction of a body. We warmly welcome you to observe and be observed in this debut show.
The Firestorm Foundation was founded in 2021 on a mission to support and increase the visibility of female and non-binary artists, raising the economic value of their work. The Firestorm Foundation’s collection brings together artists from different generations and parts of the world, with a particular focus on the local scene. The iconic collection includes key figures who helped shape 20th-century art, as well as established and emerging stars active today.
